8 Walks, 1 Weekend, 1 Step!
Saturday & Sunday, September 24 – 25, 2011

What is AIDS Walk Michigan?
AIDS Walk Michigan is a non-profit organization that began in 1998. It’s mission is to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS and to raise money for local AIDS Service Organizations in participating Michigan communities. This special collaboration is unique in the United States, featuring 7 AIDS Walks in 8 cities, all under one-umbrella organization, AIDS Walk Michigan.

Individuals and teams participating in AIDS Walk Michigan ask for pledge dollars from friends, family members, co-workers or classmates to help sponsor their walk. Local and statewide corporations and businesses support AIDS Walk Michigan with cash or in-kind contributions, supporting the cost of the annual event.

Who does the walk benefit?
The funds generated by each AIDS Walk are dedicated to HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and care services and pledge dollars from each walk remain in the local community where it is raised to help support local AIDS Service Organizations. Some local walks direct all of the monies raised to a single service agency, while others divide their proceeds among multiple agencies.

Local AIDS Service Organizations that benefit from funds generated by AIDS Walk Michigan serve nearly 60% of the 17,000 Michigan residents and their families living with HIV and AIDS. For some AIDS Service Organizations, AIDS Walk Michigan is their primary fundraising event for the year.

Why should I walk?
The annual AIDS Walk helps to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and simultaneously it helps to raise funds for local AIDS services. For many, these services are a lifeline to food, housing, transportation and support services that are designed for people and families living with HIV and AIDS. By participating in AIDS Walk Michigan you can take one giant step in the fight against AIDS in your own community.
